Steam generators

A steam generator is an appliance able to transform water from the liquid to the gaseous state through the generation of steam at constant pressure.

Thanks to steam, it is possible to thoroughly clean, degrease and sanitize all water-resistant and high-temperature surfaces in a short time, with little effort and without the intensive use of polluting chemicals.

Sanitize with the steam generator

High temperature is the essential characteristic that gives the professional steam generator the power to sanitize: below 140° centigrade, in fact, it is not possible to talk about sanitization.
This is the primary reason why people purchase and use a steam generator in a professional setting. In addition, the steam attacks pathogens without corroding or damaging the materials making up the work surfaces.
When we talk about sanitizing with a steam generator, we mean several actions. Each of these can relate to special areas of use:

  • sanitizing action: steam ensures and maintains hygiene, an indispensable element in healthcare environments and hospitals;
  • degreasing action: steam has a strong penetration capacity and can dissolve dirt in areas which are difficult to reach and affected by grease, dirt and dust, such as floors, handrails, counters and bathrooms;
  • decontamination action: the steam high temperature fights and eliminates the contaminating effects of biological and chemical substances from any kind of environment, equipment and machinery.

Advantages of the steam generator

The advantages obtainable from cleaning with a steam generator are many:

  • saving effort and time,
  • reduced consumption of water and detergents,
  • the highest level of cleanliness and sanitation

A further advantage of the generator is its operation indoors, both because it produces very little water residue - offering a water saving of 90% - and because many models are equipped with suction systems which directly remove any residual liquid left at the end of the cleaning phase.

How a steam generator works

Most professional steam generators consist of:

  • a boiler
  • a hose connected to the boiler, provided with several lances and nozzles
  • a water tank and a possible matching detergent tank;
  • a pressure pump for the delivery of the cleaning jet;
  • a suctioning system for the residual liquids (in the case of generators equipped with a suction function);
  • several accessories such as brushes and squeegees;
  • an electrical system for power supply;
  • a supporting structure equipped with wheels for transport and movement.

Types of steam generated

In addition to the size of the boiler, professional steam generators are mainly distinguished by the type of steam they produce and deliver: there are, in fact, saturated steam generators, dry saturated steam generators and wet saturated steam generators according to the percentage of water and steam that make up the jet used for cleaning:

  • saturated steam includes a fair percentage of water;
  • dry saturated steam is devoid of the aqueous component, which is allowed to completely evaporate before the jet is delivered;
  • wet saturated steam, the most commonly used type, includes liquid particles suspended within the jet
